Daily Harvest Review: Balance and Easy

By now, you guys all know that I work for myself (blog and Instagram full time) and with quarantine life, I now cook more than ever. 3 meals a day for two growing boys and myself is at times stressful. The prep work, dishes, and my busy schedule makes it hard to do every single meal as healthy as I would love. I first heard of Daily Harvest based on their smoothies. We all love smoothies and my kids love them too! I mean they taste like healthy milkshakes and they are sooo good from Daily Harvest! If you haven’t tried anything from them yet, you must start with the smoothies.

With my schedule being so busy (blogging, daily stories, partners, photoshoots, content calendar), I wanted to try more of their menu items and do a review of their menu collections. I still cook dinner, but having Daily Harvest for breakfast and/or lunch has made my life so much easier!

I’m a huge food lover and I’ve been actively trying to eat healthier. I still eat my normal foods, get take out and eat at restaurants, but I truly wanted to add more fruits and vegetables to my diet. What’s great about Daily Harvest is that not only does it TASTE GOOD but it is so easy to prepare.

With 9 collections that include smoothies, harvest bowls, soups, oat bowls, chia bowls, lattes, flatbreads, scoops, and bites there is a great variety for any food lover. Flexible deliveries and a wide variety of plans or shipping is customized by the customer. Everything is packed in dry ice and you just have to stick everything into the freezer. Grab and prep when ready to eat.

I tried a few of the collection items and you’ll see in my photos how easy it is to prep and eat. All ingredients and directions are on the side of the container, with each item taking less than 10 minutes (when heating, I like to heat things slowly as to absorb the taste and not burn it).

These were the main items I tried that are great for breakfast/lunch, with Scoops being amazing for dessert.

#1 Smoothies

As I said, I feel in love with these smoothies and all that is needed is either milk (or your choice of milk substitute) or water.  Pour everything from the container and added milk into your blender.

Smoothies and buying all the different ingredients to make it taste good and prep/chopping etc. takes more time than pouring all these yummy ingredients into the blender. Plus, every smoothie I tried was delicious. They found the perfect mix to achieve high-impact taste with ease. Definitely recommend this to everyone who wants to add fruits and veggies to their diet! Literally, every smoothie I tried, I loved. Obsessed with the Cold Brew + Almond (must-have if you are a coffee lover) and the Chocolate + Blueberry.

#2 Harvest Bowls

I tried the bestseller Broccoli + Cheeze Bowl for lunch and loved the mix of cauliflower, bell pepper, and sweet potato. It only took 4-5 minutes of heating up on the stove with 1-2 tbsp of water. Since I typically like protein to fill me up, I had a side of tuna fish (also would do a grilled chicken breast as well). The bowls provide a good amount of food and definitely could be dinner as well.

The harvest bowls are great for lunch and over 16 menu options to choose from. In my next box, I want to try the Cauliflower Rise + Kimchi as I love Asian food.

#3 Soups

I’m a HUGE soup fan so this is right up my alley. I tried the Mushroom + Miso soup and it was tasty with a great variety of vegetables like squash, spinach, and shiitake mushrooms. I heated it up in 5 minutes and it was the perfect warm bowl for this cold weather. The calorie count for most of their soups is an average of 50! So I would half a flatbread or a harvest bowl to my lunch.

#4 Oat Bowls

The Oat Bowls are great for breakfast and lunch lovers who love sweets. Full of a great variety of fruits and perfect for breakfast. See the photos below and you can see how that they look amazing.

#5 Flatbread

These flatbreads are another great option for lunch and a healthy alternative to a heavy pizza. Reheat it in the oven with ease and next time I’d add an over-easy egg or protein. I really wanted to try it perfectly made as it came. I had the Artichoke + Spinach Flatbread. Crunchy, tasty, and not too salty. I definitely felt like I was eating something good for me.  Another great menu item for dinner as you can add protein to it. If you are a bread person, this is a great option to get a filling of it, without the heavy feel.

#6 Scoops

OMG, this was a delightful surprise! Hello, yummy dessert! I had a scoop of each, Sticky, Sweet, Salted Caramel, Ooey, Gooey, Midnight Fudge, Rich, Rippled Berry Compote.

I mean, I couldn’t even pick a favorite – they were fantastic and I definitely recommend these for dessert! The caramel and fudge were so yummy with a creamy taste. The berry compote as a refreshing sorbet taste. All 3 were my favorites!

So how does Daily Harvest work?

The ingredients are simple, clean, and easy to make. Although my love of cooking has increased, this is so easy that there are little cleanup and no prep. There are days where I really just can’t get to making things from scratch or ordering in fast food again just isn’t appealing. Having these in my freezer just saves my day and time. The great part is that it’s healthy and tasty.

How is Daily Harvest different from other frozen fruits and meals?

I do not love frozen foods that you microwave or heat up in the oven. Most meals I make are fresh or simple recipes. What I love about Daily Harvest is that they handle their fruits and vegetables with a special freezing process, that locks in the nutrients and flavor. There’s no added sugar and they just taste clean and delicious.

The biggest pluses:

Convenient: Delivers straight to your door and you pop them into your freezer

Easy: No prep and ready in minutes

The variety and unique recipes: you get a variety of options to try and each menu item is full of different ingredients. The taste is fulfilling and no need to second guess your recipes

Clean and plant-based

I love that they wanted to give you guys $25 off your first order, this is a huge deal and you can choose how many times you get in a shipment as well as the shipping time frame as mentioned before.

Overall review, I love adding this into my weekly routine. The two items that I would have the most are the Smoothies and the Harvest Bowls. This is perfect for breakfast and lunch and I found them to be the most delicious. For my kids, (as I’m not a dessert gal), the scoops were well received. If you are a sweets lover, definitely try out the scoops and Oat Bowls! I highly recommend this to anyone looking to add vegetables and fruit in their diet, who loves and wants to eat healthier, with the overall convenience of cutting downtime on prepping and cooking. These days, I love anything yummy and convenient and for the average price of $7 for each cup, it is affordable and less than eating out!
